ASCoN’s Training and Capacity Building programme strengthens spinal cord injury (SCI) services across Asia by developing clinical leaders, educators, and multidisciplinary trainers through structured regional initiatives.

Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme

The ASCoN Training of Trainers (ToT) programme equips healthcare professionals with advanced clinical knowledge, teaching skills, and leadership capacity to deliver sustainable SCI training within their own countries.

Course 3 – Specialised Training of Trainers

Location: 2023 – National Rehabilitation Center, Korea

Course 3 focused on specialised and advanced aspects of spinal cord injury rehabilitation, delivered in a high-resource setting to support cross-regional learning, exposure to advanced service models, and adaptation of best practice to diverse healthcare systems.

This course strengthened international collaboration and reinforced ASCoN’s role in facilitating knowledge exchange between regions with differing levels of healthcare infrastructure.

ASCoN Clinical Guidelines

ASCoN has developed and disseminated regionally relevant clinical guidelines to support consistent, evidence-based, and person-centred SCI care.

Developing Leaders in SCI Rehabilitation

ASCoN’s Training of Trainers (ToT) programme develops future leaders in SCI rehabilitation. It equips multidisciplinary professionals with teaching and leadership skills essential for improving SCI services within their countries.

Past Courses

– 1st ToT (2018, Yangon, Myanmar): 20 trainees from 8 countries.
– 2nd ToT (2019, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia): 15 trainees from 7 countries.

Partners and Collaborators

Delivered in collaboration with ISCoS, SPIRIT, Livability, and Handicap International, the ToT courses have strengthened expertise across the region.

Achievements and Future Plans

Graduates of ASCoN ToT programmes have gone on to lead national workshops and contribute to international research initiatives such as the InSCI Study. Future plans include expanding the programme to include multidisciplinary professionals and reactivating the course as a two-week certification model in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
